In the Past 10 Years

In the past 10 years, to say that technology has taken the world by storm would be an understatement. From the internet to gadgets and games we have advanced to new heights and expanded a market that will only continue to grow far and beyond our imaginations. The way we communicate has been completely altered from phones that were stuck to walls with short cords to a revolutionized wireless world. Cell phones, digital cameras, web cams, laptops, YouTube, Wii, navigation systems, social networking, blogging and ecommerce have marked its territory in our lives making communication and information available at our fingertips at lightning-fast speed. Here is a look at some of the advances in technology from 2000-now.

Communication: We have progressed into a Wireless World, with cell phones, iPhones, Blackberry’s, and text messages making communication more immediate. Not only is talking easier, clearer and faster than ever before but we have made an extreme progression from the cell phones from the early 2000’s until now. When the cell phone first became popular, it was as large as a cordless house phone, with a simple keypad and the only real advantage was to be able to use it outside of your house. Now we can read emails, check facebook, look up directions, listen to music, ichat, bbm, and make a phone call. It is a market that is constantly changing, sizes, shapes, and colors, screens, keypads, flips, slides, apps, internet, camera and messaging capabilities. And in recent months the competition between cell phone providers has been increasing with each new phone, locking you into contracts for 1-2 years it hard for consumers to keep up with the latest and greatest trends.

Social Media/Internet: We have come a long way since AOL and instant messaging. Myspace became one of the biggest networking sites in the mid 2000’s, allowing people to create a space for themselves to share their interests and talk between friends; which is somewhat a thing of the past, now that Facebook has taken a gigantic leap in popularity making it a key marketing plan for most companies. What better way to promote your company than to put yourself on a FREE networking site. Twitter has also gained popularity in the past year. Connecting you at arm’s reach to celebrities, advice and retailers, selling and promoting is cheaper or more marketable. Blogging has become a great way to share, thoughts, photos and info with your friends and family and the world. Youtube is the leader of online video sharing. Allowing you to upload your own videos and share them with whomever you choose. Also keeping you up to date with current or old TV shows, commercials etc..

Gadgets: Laptops have increased in demand over the past few years. Whether you’re commuting to and from school or hosting a company meeting outside of the office; the internet and software are now easily accessible to the public who are constantly on the move and changing environments. In 2001, Windows XP and MAC OSX were introduced to the world. Windows XP is still the most used operating system today. Mac also came out with the first Ipod in 2001, causing a significant impact on music and then what latter progressed into the Iphone. Navigational systems have become a necessity in everyday life. Not only are they a portable device than can be used in multiple cars, but they have become a great selling point for car manufacturers who have built them into their latest models. Digital cameras are a great advance in technology as well, with the ability to delete, add and even edit photos and uploading them directly to your computer and photo imaging sites. It has made photos available immediately to you, without having to wait for the development process and the possibility of unwanted photos.
